Problem
Mangrove monitoring and blue-carbon initiatives require repeatable ways to identify extent, change and potential hotspots while connecting technical outputs with stakeholder needs.
Context
This multidisciplinary project involved researchers, data contributors, public-sector organisations, NGOs and field partners.
Approach
The work combined satellite-data workflows, model evaluation, stakeholder workshops, interviews and iterative requirements development.
My role
As Technical and Stakeholder Engagement Lead for the project, I coordinated technical and stakeholder-facing activities, managed development work for the processing pipeline and prototype platform, and translated feedback into research, data and technical requirements.
Result
The project developed an automated satellite-data processing pipeline and a research prototype for visualising mangrove extent, change and hotspot areas.
Evidence
Public evidence currently includes a 2025 conference contribution on large-scale mangrove-extent label validation. Additional project materials will be added after publication approval.
Potential applications
Mangrove monitoring, blue-carbon research, restoration targeting, environmental reporting and MRV-oriented workflows.
